Strickers "Daniel" stellt eine äußerst pointierte Variante des Erzählens von Artus dar. Statt im Rahmen der hergebrachten Modelle historia oder Roman zu arbeiten, kombiniert er beide, um die Artusepik von ihrem elementaren medialen Problem her neu aufzurollen: Wie lässt sich das Bild des Königs retten, wenn dessen Erinnerung und imaginäre Vergegenwärtigung schon unter den physiologischen Bedingungen des Wahrnehmungsapparates ständig von Abriss und Bildentzug bedroht sind? Strickers Antwort ist überraschend und konsequent: Er verlegt die typischen arturischen Spielregeln und Handlungsmuster direkt in den Wahrnehmungsapparat und inszeniert in dessen phantastischer Topographie die Ausbalancierung höfischer Ungleichgewichte, die im Mittelpunkt der Hartmannschen Romane stand, als zerebralen Balanceakt zwischen imaginatio, ratio und memoria sowie als gesteigerte Phantasmen- Produktion im Zusammenspiel von minne, ars magica und ars poetica.

Stricker's "Daniel" is an extremely pointed version of the Arthurian narrative. Instead of working within the traditional models of historia or romance, he combines the two in order to develop the Arthurian epic in a new way starting from its fundamental problem: How can the image of the King be salvaged, if its memory and imaginary visualisation are threatened with demolition and removal of the picture under the physiological conditions of the visual apparatus? Stricker's answer is surprising and logical: he places the typical rules and plot of the Arthurian epic directly in the visual apparatus and in this fantastic topography balances out the inequalities of the courtly world, which were at the centre of Hartmann's Arthurian romances, as a cerebral balancing act between imaginatio, ratio and memoria, and also as a heightened phantasm production in the interplay of minne, ars magica and ars poetica.
